About

When I was about 10 years old a neighbour who was a chemist showed me how to make contact prints from negs taken with the family Box Brownie. He started a fascination that day with image capturing which has endured for many years. I quickly progressed to developing, printing and enlarging in a permanently set up home darkroom in a kitchen adjacent to the coal cellar. By the time I was in my early teens I was doing paid wedding and other photography and this trend continued all my life with me doing part time professional work in addition to my regular job.

When I retired from my full time employment I did take up paid photography pretty well full time for about eight years until I really couldn't face another wedding, preferring to utilise my time doing the sort of photography which I really prefer... basically pleasing just myself.

I'm interested in all genres of photography but as you'll see looking around these pages, by far the biggest part of my time is spent pursuing wildlife shots. My wife Jan began to show an interest in wildlife photography a while back, a fact which doesn't displease me, and now looks forward to actually participating in our photographic excursions.

She's now become a useful photographer with her own gear. You'll see some of the earlier photos here where she was credited with the shot, but nowadays we don't do this - they're unmarked and are just 'our shots', we don't bother to differentiate. Having two cameras going just doubles the chances of getting the shot.
